Barking 101
Find out why your dog is barking below!
Some people think the use of a bark collar system is the final straw to properly bark training your dog. This is a misconception because professional trainers not only use bark collars to train their dogs but they also recommend that dog owners do the same. It is important to start bark training your dog before barking even becomes a pertinent problem.
Professional trainers understand that dogs bark to communicate and express themselves. The last thing trainers want to do is hinder a dog’s natural way of communicating.
The list below is to be used as a guide to understand why your dog is barking. It is important that you know how to differentiate the differences between natural extinctive barking and excessive barking.
- Dogs are naturally protective animals that barks whenever they feel threaten. So when someone knocks on the door, or walks across your lawn it is perfectly natural for your dog to bark. This type of bark is loud and authoritative. It is meant to get scare off a possible intruder that has come into the dog’s territory. Trained properly, this bark can protect you and your home.
- This type of barking is usually associated with separation anxiety. The bark is high-pitched and whining. Anxiety barking can be the cause of some behavioral problems and can be easily fixed with proper bark collar training.
- Most dogs are very energetic and have no problem expressing how they feel. This type of barking is most relevant in puppies and young dogs. The bark is upbeat and sometimes melodic. When controlled an excitement bark is nothing that should be hindered by a bark collar.
- Dogs bark to receive attention from something or someone. This type of bark could be a nuisance and should be controlled due to some dogs constantly wanting attention.
- When a dog has built up energy he will bark to release it. This type of barking usually happens when no one is home and can be a nuisance to neighbors. It sounds whining and tends to be more on the annoying side.
